5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This review is very brief simply because I was trying really hard to not hint at ANY plot events and I was scared that fleshing out this review might have led to people guessing the plot based on my commentary.
This review is also harsh, but keep in mind that I did give this book and its sequel five stars as I eagerly anticipate the release of the final book.
It took some effort to write this without putting any character names, scenes, spoilers, or even approximations as to what might happen in the book. This is a writing criticism, not a plot and character flesh-out.
Did it have flaws? Most certainly. But I was able to overlook them.
Looking back at it it was a little cringy but it had an enticing plot. The plot was good, the romance was well done.
The dialogue was a bit forced. It felt like tropes were just shoved in wherever possible. The characters weren’t as well fleshed out as I would’ve liked.
I didn’t see the minor love triangle trope coming, and I would have liked a little more romance before the final scene and cliffhanger. It would have been more dramatic had there been even more established feelings and scenes between the two before the scene at the end.
That being said, I was jealous of the tension the whole time.
I also blame books like this for creating the very real idea of a ‘situationship’ cause that’s exactly what this book was up until the very very end. It felt like a talking stage that went on a BIT long if you know what I mean.
I really don’t know why I’m being so harsh. I loved this book. I was hooked, and it got me out of my slump. The characters were badass, and the story had some nice twists. It was everything I could possibly need.
I went and read the sequel immediately.
